PART-TIME PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

6 EASY ONLINE LESSONS

Getting Started | Basic to Intermediate Photography Course

6 Week Online Program

"The course was presented in a very professional, clear, concise and easy to understand manner and it covered every aspect of photography that I needed to get started. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and learnt so much"
Sue Docherty

Getting into photography with today's modern camera equipment can feel somewhat daunting. The terminology is generally weird, and most settings feel like they work backwards, this is because photography is a combination of maths, science, chemistry, computing with art thrown in for good measure.

Funny, when you cut through the jargon and understand the basics of photography properly, it is not that challenging at all.

The course is taught online in a small class environment. The first two lessons cover the fundamental basics of photography in-depth; during this time, you will learn how to set up and navigate your camera, and you will learn about the photographic system and how ISO, Shutter, Aperture and EV work.

During the third week teaches how to operate the light meter in the camera. Although sophisticated, the modern camera uses what is known as a "reflected" light meter. Unfortunately, although highly accurate, without a proper understanding of how it functions the quality of the photographs can be affected by incorrect exposure and reduced contrast. You learn how a light meter is calibrated, how it interprets light and more importantly, how to achieve the perfect exposure through different methods and compensation.

On the fourth lesson of this online course, you will learn how to manage the situation in your photography. After completing this lesson, you will be able to control the technical and artistic aspects you wish to achieve, as well as manage the colour of the scene and alter the depth in the picture.

The fifth lesson is completely dedicated to understanding composition and visual communications, which will allow you to create incredible photographs with impact.

On the last lesson, the results of a final exercise are discussed and evaluated. On this lesson, you will also be taught how to process a digital RAW file correctly; this is not digital editing or "Photoshop" per-say it is the critical step of developing your digital file successfully.

After these six weekly online lessons,  you will be confident with handling your camera and achieving the desired outcome.  You will be able to stunning compositions and will be able to process your digital file without compromising quality - Guaranteed!

Google Review May 2020 | Basic to Intermediate Online Course

Given the choice now, I very much enjoy doing this course online.

I booked the beginner photography course before COVID-19 lockdown, but we were not able to have a face-to-face course as scheduled. Martin has been a true professional in how he handled this unforeseen uncertainty. He regularly contacted me telephonically to keep me updated, and in the end, he migrated to an online course due to the extended lockdown. Initially, I was sceptical about the online course, but it works very well! Martin visually explains concepts thoroughly with high-quality slides. He has a great sense of humour and engages well. The class is intimate, and you get the opportunity to ask questions as needed as you would in a traditional classroom. Given a choice now, I very much enjoy doing this online, and I don't feel that I am missing out on an in-person class! I enjoy doing this from the comfort of my home. He is a gifted teacher - and this (now online) course is highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions

What camera equipment will I need to do the course?

We recommend either a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera or a digital mirrorless camera. Some advance compact or bridge cameras are also suitable. The most important thing is that the camera has a full manual (M) mode. If you do not have a camera yet and will be purchasing one before attending the course, consider investing in a DSLR, full or cropped sensor depending on your budget. We can also help you with a recommended list if need be.

I don't know anything about photography, is that a concern?

There no need to worry. The lessons are really simple and the course is taught in a step by step manner. Very often it is easier to teach a person photography from scratch than to change bad habits.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

Ideally, it would be better if you were able to attend the course without missing a lesson. But we do understand that life happens. On request the lesson will be recorded for you.

What if I find the course too basic?

As the course goes through to an intermediate level this rarely happens. But should you feel that the course is too simple for you, you would know this by the end of the second lesson. At this point you could move onto the advanced class free of charge, or get a full refund should you wish not to continue.

What is the average class size?

Around seven students, as we believe in a small group dynamic for optimum teaching.

Do I get a certificate?

On request, we would be able to issue you with a certificate of attendance on completion.

How many students do you accept for an online course?

We accept no more than eight students per course. We keep the online class size small to promote interaction and enchourage mentorship and relationship.

What platform do you use to teach this online course?

At the moment we are using ZOOM

What camera would I need to complete this online course

We suggest a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) or a Mirrorless Camera. Most important is that the camera can be operated in full manual mode. Smart phones and point and shoot cameras would not be suitable.

Are these courses only taught online or do you still offer face to face classroom teaching?

Until COVID 19 has run its course and it is safe to offer classroom teaching this basic to intermediate course will be taught online

Is the online course and a face to face classroom taught program the same?

Yes, exactly the same content and quality.

"I was astonished by the quality of the photographs taken by our class at the end of the course. It just goes to show what good teaching, clear practical instruction and enthusiasm can do. Thank you Martin, the course was a blast, should have done it years ago."
