Getting Started | Lessons 1 - 6 | One Lesson a Week
Photography for so many people is about capturing reality and recording memories. But did you know that photography is one of the most exciting mediums in art today? Still, if you look deeper, you will also realise that a camera and the less than perfect photographic system itself is an incredible platform to create brilliant art.
On this course, the camera is seen as an instrument of the workbench to create art. Over many years, Martin Osner has developed mixed media and digital techniques that draw out an incredible artistic impression and delivers photographs into a beautiful creative space. Whether he uses the camera in the beginning, during, or at the end of the process does not matter. What matters is that the photographic process's characteristics, both good and poor, are used to deliver the art. The techniques taught are creative and unique.

This first set of workshops (Getting Started) consists of six lessons comprising of two and a half hours, taught once a week. Classes are presented live over Zoom, and video recordings are shown to demonstrate techniques. Classes are small in size, interactive and workshop orientated where you will learn to transform photography into art imagery fit for display and exhibition. Traditional art techniques like oil & acrylic painting, sketching, collaging, montaging, double exposure, and transfers are taught, both with and without digital photo editing.

These comprehensive workshops do not require in-depth knowledge of photography; rather, it is more important that as a student, you have a desire to explore photography as an alternative creative medium within the framework of art.

Frequently asked questions
What platform do you use to teach this online course on?
At the moment we are using ZOOM
Is this course only taught online or do you still offer face to face classroom teaching?
This fine art photography course is now designed to be taught online and presents really well. Classroom taught options will only be offered once COVID 19 has run its course and it is safe to offer classroom teaching.
What is the difference between the content of the online course and a face to face classroom presented course?
The course content is identical.
How many students do you accept on a course?
We accept no more than eight students per course. We keep the class size small to promote interaction and enchourage mentorship and relationship.
What camera equipment will I need to do the course?
You can use any camera, but we recommend either a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera or a digital mirrorless camera.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
Ideally, it would be better if you were able to attend the course without missing a lesson. But we do understand that life happens. When a student is missing from a class, the lesson is recorded, so you will be able to catch up before the next module is presented.
Do you issue a certificate on completion?
On request, we would be able to issue a certificate of attendance on completion.
Is the online course taught live, or is it pre-recorded?
Martin Osner teaches the course live.
I have never done art and I cannot draw or paint. It this a concern?
Not at all. The camera is going to be used to do create the foundation of the artwork and mixed media techniques are really easy and fun. There is an artist in everyone, this course will open up doors that you did not even know existed.
I am an acomplished artist, will this course be of value to me?
If you are looking for fresh ideas, techniques and starting points, and inspiration then absoloutely.
Besides a camera and a computer, what other equipment will I need?
Firstly you will need a small work area. Then beside a camera, the following equipment is required.
What software will I require to do the course?
We suggest you subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud and sign up for the basic photographers package which will give you access to: (Approx $12 per month)
